We Just Decided To
Rarely does a show leave me changed forever. That was what Newsroom did for me.
I know this might be a controversial opinion, but from the opening credits to the final scene, The Newsroom gripped me, moved me, and demanded greatness, humility, and courage from me. Jeff Daniels was phenomenal, carrying the cast into near perfection.
There’s no question that The Newsroom upholds a certain standard of brilliance—after all, it’s an Aaron Sorkin creation. While critics take issue with its idealism, that’s precisely what I loved most about it.
In this economy (my favorite catchphrase), we need idealism—a sheer will to rise above reality and pursue the difficult, great things.
Rarely do we see a show where the primary characters are simply trying to be good people. Maybe that’s why I loved it so much—watching humanity strive to be better, despite and because of its consequences, felt refreshingly hopeful.
Even if you don’t watch the entire show, at least watch the pilot—it’s one of the greatest ever made, and I hope it moves you as much as it did me.
